Stove Program

Most "stoves" in the villages are simply an open fire, mostly indoors, using firewood with no chimney. Until you've been in a house with no chimney that has the fire blazing you can't get a real sense of how harsh it really is. Smoke billows and ash flies around the room creating fire hazards. In some cases the stove is in an enclosed room and the walls and all content are totally black and covered in soot.

Our stove builds are made of concrete block, firebricks, metal plating, and include a chimney which immediately reduces the smoke issue. This has a huge positive impact on the health of all living in the home. Many of the family members not only have respiratory issues but chronic eye and skin problems.

The containment of the firebox and use of firebricks dramatically reduces how much firewood, "leña", is used which also creates a positive economic impact on the household.

A complete stove kit with installation costs $225 which is not only an investment in the home but the overall health and wellness of the family.

Stove donations are a great option for individuals, families, and businesses. These also are a great fund raising campaign for small groups!

In the home of our first installation the mother always had extremely red, irritated eyes as well as major facial skin irritations. After just one week with a new stove she showed visible change in her health and reported feeling much better. She also expressed how much the stove helped overall with time and money because so little firewood was needed.
